Sustainability

"Using the purest ingredients nature can offer, our goal is to connect you with an organic ritual that will instil a new appreciation for organic agriculture & inspire you to further support our planet"

- Suzanne (Founder)

Current Project
Brazil Compost

Located in Brazil, this project reduces 12,600 tons of carbon dioxide each year, or 126,000 tons over the 10-year life of the project, by recycling swine waste and converting it into compost. In doing so, the project protects the local water supply and the environment from potential contamination from waste run-off. It also creates a system to provide local communities with low cost and low carbon footprint compost that can be used as fertilizer in local farms. Previous methods of waste disposal produce significant amounts of methane, a greenhouse gas 84 times more potent than CO2, in the first 20 years after its release. Changing to a composting system will help eliminate this excess production of methane and the harmful effects it has on the environment.

Past Projects
Sidrap Windfarms

Sidrap Wind Farm is located in South Sulawesi and consists of 30 wind turbines with a total installed capacity of 75 MW. This project produces 253,000 MWh of renewable energy per year to the South Sulawesi national grid—that’s enough to power over 70,000 local homes. The Sidrap Wind Farm reduces Indonesia’s dependence on fossil fuels for power generation, providing clean electricity to a nation in need of power.

OUR COLLABORATIONS

Why does environmental sustainability form one of our core values?

Our founder Suzanne grew up in the country, right in the thick of wildlife. This formed a deep connection and appreciation for nature and how it provides us beauty, healing and reconnection with ourselves. Rather than contribute to mass consumerism, we are on a mission to share sustainable skincare and instil the desire to create positive changes that support the environment.

MEET SUZANNE

Our pledge by 2023

Our whole range made from either biodegradable plastic derived from plant sources OR have refillable options dispensed by our stockists. Our Flora Cream tube is the very first product in our range to be made from biodegradable plastic.

Who we collaborate with

EcoCart

EcoCart calculates the carbon offset costs of your order which then funds carefully selected projects – you don’t have to lift a finger. They offer full transparency into which projects they fund, why they're chosen, and what their specific impact is.EcoCarts robust algorithm calculates the exact carbon emissions from both manufacturing and shipping each order by looking at variables such as raw materials, manufacturing process, product weight, shipping distance, and more.

Handprint

Handprint empowers companies like Bare Roots to make a positive impact by connecting us with projects that align with our values, ranging from forestry, coral reef reconstruction, over breeding programs and plastic removal, to targeted education and disaster relief. We donate a portion of each sale towards sustainability projects that we can track in real time.

Charitable Funding

Wild Conservation Day 2021. We proudly donated $1 from every product sold to Wildlife Warriors who are doing incredible things to preserve native wildlife and natural habitats - particularly in Australia. We wanted to do something different to Black Friday promotions and thanks to your support, $500 from our product sales between 26th of November - 4th of December was donated.

Biodegradable Packaging

Aiming to be either fully biodegradable by 2023 or refillable (an option we are still exploring). Our Flora Cream is the first in the range to be filled in a biodegradable tube.

Recyclable packaging

The packaging we use is 100% recyclable so please be sure to recycle accordingly as plastics can be re-purposed up to 3 times to create new products!
