Cosmetic Transparency and Why It Matters

Cosmetic Transparency and Why It Matters

Mar 07, 2024Suzanne Smedley

Recently there has been some shocking news in the skincare industry about well-known brands misleading customers with false claims about their "natural" products. It's a wake-up call that highlights the importance of transparency in cosmetics, and that's something we, at Bare Roots, take very seriously.

When it comes to personal care products, we all want to know what we're putting on our skin - is it safe, effective, and does it truly meet our needs? It's not just about the results, but also the ingredients. We're becoming more aware and curious about what goes into our skincare, why those ingredients are chosen, and where they come from.

But let's be honest, not everyone has the time to dive deep into research or become an expert in skincare. We rely on brands to be honest and trustworthy. And that's why it's so disappointing when companies mislead us with false claims or "greenwashing." It's a breach of trust and simply unethical.

Trust is birthed from honesty and to defy either would be unethical.

Let's talk facts:

If a product contains even just one synthetic ingredient, it can't be considered natural or organic. It's a common trend for brands to use a few plant extracts to lure you in.

😲 Shockingly, those highlight botanical ingredients often added for label claims don't actually provide any real benefit to your skin. Phrases like "made with," "infused with," or "contains" can be misleading.

🌱 Natural and Organic claims should be certified by a reputable regulatory body. That's the ultimate seal of approval if you want something authentically natural or organic.

🚫 Watch out for fake certifications or logos claiming cruelty-free, eco-friendly, or organic. Not all certifications are created equal.

🌈 Be mindful of exaggerated efforts to make packaging appear "natural" with colors, designs, and wording. Educate yourself about ingredients and be aware of fear-mongering tactics.

Remember, "natural" and "organic" might sound similar, but they're not the same, and these terms are often loosely used.

At Bare Roots, we take pride in our ethical practices. It's not just about being a sustainable brand; it's about building trust and loyalty with our customers.

When you choose our products, you can feel confident knowing that every ingredient serves a functional purpose for your skin. How do we back up our claims of being 100% natural and made with certified organic ingredients? COSMOS Certification. Each product clearly highlights how much of it is organic - and trust us, it's a significant portion! Just flip your product over and refer to the bottom of the ingredient list.

We'd love to hear your thoughts on cosmetic transparency and greenwashing. Have you ever been personally affected by misleading claims? Let's keep the conversation going! Together, we can make informed choices and be empowered by our decisions
